Weird Google Mashups

by Strider on November 22, 2009

Google is the most popular search engine there is. You might have seen different versions of the Google search engine, customized to give a different user interface. There is Blackle, which claims that by using a black screen for the Google interface we would save 750 Mega Watt hours of energy an year. Here however are two of the stranger ones I found.

GoogleGoogleGoogleGoogle:

This one isn’t really weird so much as unique. It is as the name implies 4 Google web search pages in one browser window. All four work independently of each other.

Mystery Google:

Mystery Google works on a bit of an odd principle, every time you enter a search query it shows you the results of a previous search done by someone else. Basically a variation of the ‘I’m feeling lucky’ button in a way. It serves no real purpose other than to kill some time.

A neat trick you can try on there is to not type anything and hit the ‘I’m feeling lucky’ button. It’ll display a message after which if you type ‘gibberish’ into the search area and hit enter it’ll display another message.

Colored Google:

These are a cool alternative to the regular Google homepage though they aren’t exactly weird. Apart from the colored ones there are also links to EMO, SCENE and GOTH Google.

I’m sure there are more mashups out there, if you know of any interesting ones do leave a link in the comments section.
