As more and more information and data is being produced every day, it is becoming more of a problem to gain understanding out of this enormous heap of data and numbers. To overcome these problems the concept of an information graphic,or infograhic for short,is born. An infographic represents data (information) in an attractive and meaningful way which helps us understand the relationship between data and also helps us visualize it’s importance. Using an infographic seemingly dull numbers are suddenly transformed to some cool looking graphic which is both easily comprehensible and visually appealing. Here are ten infographics which we have compiled which show the inherent benefits of using such an approach to present data.
10) Carland:
This simple yet attractive snake like map shows the history of motoring in America.
9) D Day:
A D- Day is a day when a military operation is started. This infographic is about the 6th June 1944 death day, when Allies invaded Normandy.
8)Great Pacific Garbage Patch:
This infographic is about a 2200 by 800 km garbage patch which is building up in the pacific ocean. Time to do something about it I think.
7) Railway Revolution:
This infographic gives a nice history of the technological evolution of trains.
6) Online Piracy:
This infographic explains online piracy, specifically movie piracy which really gives the MPAA nightmares.
5) Cheap Airlines:
This infographic explains how their is always an air carrier that is a hundred bucks cheaper than the one you choose, which always had me thinking.
4) Arms Trade:
This one really had me thinking about the amount of money we spend on killing ourselves. Being a nerd I always appreciate the new flashy fighter jets and stealth robots and all that technology but is it worth it?
3) Water Crisis:
My dad always says that the next big war will be over water resources. Looking at this infographic you can’t disagree with him.
2) The American Dream:
This is one of the greatest infographics I’ve seen as it combines easily available data and shows the real picture behind it and it is a real eye opener. Also the simple design really helps to get the point through.
1) USA Budget:
The so called “death and taxes” infographic is simply the most awesome and jaw dropping infographic I have ever seen. It gives a visual representation of USA budget allocation and spending. The amount of data it is able to put on one chart is unbelievable. Go here to see it in full glory. It is also available as a poster from that link. The man who made this is a total genius and hats off to him. Go here if you want to see only the data used in it (some 440 points of information!). I think every Government organization and school should have this poster.
