Online games (flash ones I’m talking about) are an excellent way to pass time, especially during an electromagnetic theory class when time can’t seem to pass quickly enough. Today I stumbled upon a pretty neat site which offers quiet a large collection of free games from a wide variety of categories. I tried a few and found them to be good enough to give it the Strider thumbs up ! The games range from the very simplest concepts to weirdest abstract ones.
The first one I tried was The Fancy Pants Adventure World 2. This was a random click at first but one that I enjoyed greatly. The premise is simple; you are a sort of stick figure character that is wearing colored pants. You can run and jump to avoid obstacles and enemies. You can also jump on enemies to stun them and then can kick them around like a football =D. The story is simple (I played until level 2), you are playing golf in the first level when a rabbit comes and takes your ice cream (you earn it when you win the firs t level). What I really liked about this game were the physics, the jumping etc physics were great for a flash game. The animation was simple but enjoyable. Overall a great game.
Being something of a World War aviation nerd I gave Dog Fight 2 a try. I played the original dog fight game some time back, which was pretty cool. This is much of the same thing except now you are kinda zoomed out and can fly back and perform stunts etc. It’s kind of amazing how much you can spend playing this game without getting bored.
Finally before class ended I tried Achilles. This again is very simple, you are Achilles the legendary warrior, you have to fight and kill enemies through 15 stages. Enemies get progressively harder to beat as you advance and each stage ends with a boss fight. The level design is linear, you can just move around in the 2 dimensions (jump in y and walk in x). Your basic attacks are kick and slash with your sword or poke with your spear depending on what you are carrying. Though very simple I found myself muttering ‘die die’ quiet a few times at the enemies.
