I do all my browsing and downloading (like now) in a Linux VM running ClamAV and Bitdefender. Both are free on Linux. If the files are clean, I move them over to the XP Pro Host, which is running Symantec Endpoint Protection. I really think the best defense is to work inside an environment that can't be infected easily and use a good scanner before introducing windows to that amazing file you downloaded.
